Foursquare is a location-based social media company that you don't hear about very much any more. It feels like a bit of a tech throwback, but is in fact younger than Twitter and maintains a very healthy 45 million-strong user base (whose demographic is most certainly 30 and up).
I have been using its Swarm app on and off since it launched in 2009, and what keeps me coming back is that it feels like a diary based on location check-ins (and any images or comments you have posted). This life-logging element is what Foursquare has decided to focus on, with a redesign that brings your check-in history to the fore.
It used to be about winning “mayorships” based on how often you frequented a cafe or bar, but now it highlights your stats with an interactive map of previous check-ins. And for those who still enjoy the competitive element, there are now 100 collective stickers based on the type of location you visit.
