If sci-fi has taught us anything, it's that computers can't be trusted. In Hexodius, it's machine versus machine. Following hostilities from a rogue computer, a robot named Fred creates a device to defend itself. You control this device, which looks like a Frisbee with rockets and guns. The only real problem withTwin-stick shooters is that they can become repetitive, but Hexodius addresses this with offers a smorgasbord variety of challenges. Depending on the level, you're protecting Fred, destroying a generator, gathering items, avoiding automated laser mazes or just surviving until the clock runs out. Some levels mix it up further, such as a Space Invaders-inspired boss battle. The graphics are retro, but clear and attractive, and the game's structure is lovely. Before each room you're told what enemies to expect and you're allowed to can prep your vessel accordingly. Like all arcade-style games, it's perfect for a bite-sized go, but the power-ups, menus and exploration mean that you'll probably want to stay for longer. A gem. uk.namcobandaigames.eu/product/hexodius
