LinkedIn: the key facts

• LinkedIn, the social network for business people and professionals, currently employs 1000 people in Ireland and has been here since 2010. The Dublin office grew from three to 900 staff in five years.
• LinkedIn was founded in 2002 and launched in 2003
• In 2014, LinkedIn announced it was beginning the construction of a new 17,500-square-metre building at Wilton Terrace in Dublin city centre for its international headquarters, which would enable it to double its workforce in the future. It is due for completion in 2017.
• LinkedIn is active in over 200 countries and has 105 million monthly active users, with 433 million members registered worldwide.
• "Motivated" remains the most overused word on Irish LinkedIn users' profiles, the social network revealed earlier this year. This is followed by "enthusiastic", "track record", "passionate", "creative" and "driven".
• LinkedIn's core business is based around recruitment advertisements and premium subscriptions for members.
• Shares in LinkedIn, which floated in May 2011, have fallen by more than 40 per cent this year.
