Think of Rex as your cool friends distilled into app form. There's always that one friend who knows all of the hip, new eateries, the one that listens to bands you haven't heard of and the one with a knack for unearthing hidden gems or quirky finds.

Rex is a social-networking app but it focuses on specific interactions: users share recommendations only and these are broken into categories that include films, music, restaurants, coffee, podcasts and travel. If you’re browsing recommendations rather than sharing it’s possible to collect these by saving them to your “vault” for later perusal.

Currently, Rex is new so it's not bustling with recommendation buddies. There's also the fact that some people make overly obvious recommendations, such as Game of Thrones or the Serial podcast. Time will tell if this is the place to hang out or if it will end up filled with middle-aged men telling each other how good Full Metal Jacket is.
