Hundreds of university students were at the Aviva Stadium yesterday for the unveiling of the winner of the Irish Microsoft Imagine Cup.

The four-strong team from Sligo Institute of Technology - Killian McCormack, Damien Fee, Linzi Ryan and Gabriel Cioflica - took the prize at the Microsoft App and Gaming Conference.

Their invention is aimed at supporting older people's social and physical health by integrating easily accessible call and video functions, exercise reminders and alerts into their television.

It uses functions from Windows phones, Skype and Kinect and is voice- and gesture-activated, so no need for remotes or keyboards.

The creation also helps elderly people to remain in contact with their loved ones. Its TAGTV function allows users to watch programmes with friends and family no matter where they are.

The students hope to attract funding to develop the project.

Other shortlisted projects came from students at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and Dundalk Institute of Technology.
