Music discovery app Soundwave is coming to wearable technology, with the company announcing that has developed a version of the app for Google’s Android Wear devices.
The Soundwave software allows users to instantly see what songs are playing at any location. The new version, which is designed to work on Google’s operating system optimised for use on watches and other wearable devices, will allow users to share music with Soundwave and Twitter followers with a swipe of the watch.
"Soundwave is delighted to be a part of this revolutionary new watch at this early stage and we are also very proud of the work that our lead Android developer, George Boyle has done to develop the Soundwave watch app," the company said.
The app can also be used to view notifications and has the option to follow users back through the watch.
The move was announced ay Google's I/O annual developer conference. LG and Samsung are already selling watches based on the new software, and Google is planning to push into other markets, including the car industry, as it tries to fend off competition from rivals such as Apple.
Soundwave was founded in 2012 by founded by Brendan O'Driscoll, Aidan Sliney and Craig Watson, with the app hitting the market in une last year. It has since been downloaded more than one million times, and is available in 14 countries around the world.
Backed by Mark Cuban, ACT Venture Capital and Enterprise Ireland, the company recently opened an office in San Francisco. Its founders have been nominated in the 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
