Proposing Online
It’s 2013, we’re modern, tech-savvy folks. So why not pop the question online? I know it sounds a bit impersonal but hear me out. You could buy the domain willyoumarryme person’sname.com and send your partner an email with a Tinyurl that redirects to the site. It’s adorkable!
There are several other suggestions here, but may I advise you not to use iPropose? It involves secretly installing a cheap-looking app on your other half’s smartphone and enticing them to click on it. Tacky.

I ª Science Day
If you think Valentine’s Day is just a sorry excuse to flog cheap chocolates, wilted flowers and cheesy greeting cards, perhaps you would prefer to declare your undying love for science instead?
“I ª Science Day” is a social media competition from Atomium Culture designed to get people talking about why they love science and technology using the #lovescience hashtag. If you hate Valentine’s Day, get science trending this February 14th.

Late Date (iOS)
What, no date today? There are plenty of online dating apps out there but this one (for the iPhone) is good for three reasons: it’s free, it uses your Facebook account as a login and it doesn’t show up on anywhere on your Facebook timeline (the shame!).
It sucks in your existing profile to create a “dating card”, but there is the option to tweak. In speed-dating style, two people are set up if they both respond “Let’s date” to each other’s card.
