Web Log: HoloLens is high-tech Operation for med students

Rather than practising on cadavers, it is now possible to strap on a helmet and interact with a virtual body

HoloLens, Microsoft's next-gen holographic, interactive computing interface, may be destined for the home of the future but first it is being showcased as the cutting edge of medical training. In association with Case Western Reserve University in the US, Microsoft HoloLens looks like a real-life Operation game for medical students.

Rather than practising on cadavers or relying on medical illustrations, these students can strap on the HoloLens helmet and interact with a virtual body, swiping through layers of tissue and muscle as they learn. HoloLens is the result of many years of Microsoft research around the three-dimensional, interactive CG environment. If anything is going to frighten the pants off Marty McFly with Jaws 19, it is this technology!
