Let’s just burn the internet down because it’s full of angry idiots like you. Woah! Don’t go getting all offended, I am simply demonstrating what counts as an abusive comment (but also a variation of the opinion held by many).
Having said that, social media need not be a lost cause; we don’t have to drown in a sea of knee-jerk outrage, bullies and concern-trolls (you know who you are).
Civil Comments is a US start-up on a mission to fix internet comments. Founders Aja Bogdanoff and Christa Mrgan have created a platform that uses peer review to moderate comments. It's a little like The X Factor for trolls.
After submitting their own, a commenter is asked to rate three random comments for civility. Based on this, the crowd weeds out the abusive, trolling, nasty ones.
It is literally just a bit of JavaScript that a publisher can effortlessly add to their site. A few lines of code might just revolutionise online civil discourse.
