Vimeo

Seen as a competitor of sorts to YouTube, video-sharing site Vimeo might be a lot smaller and more niche but it has unique aspects that make it worth using.

With a recent rebuild, it loads videos much faster than before, has a better full screen mode than YouTube and it specialises in long form HD videos. It’s a great place to find indie films and documentaries; new in-player purchasing makes it easier to rent or buy.

Check it out for a wide variety of content off the beaten track.

Twiddle for Android
Google search but in a more elegant package?

Yes please! Twiddle is a sleek and minimalistic Android app that searches Google but serves up the results in a neater and more pleasing way.

Only the first six results are shown; the rest, along with related searches, are tucked away behind icons on the bottom of the screen.

Turning the screen sideways displays the results in a map format that can be zoomed in on.

It's probably not going to replace Google search, but it's an interesting concept.

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot
Immerse yourself in a cartoonish medieval world with Ubisoft's new free-to-play multiplayer adventure game set in the kingdom of Opulencia.

You pick one of three players and the twist is that you are not on a mission to save the kingdom or help anyone – you’re out for yourself.

The idea is to become richer than anyone else by looting castles and protecting your treasure.

It's in closed beta (which you can apply for now) until February 25th when it's open to everyone. Don't bother if you have a Mac; it's PC-only for now.
