Portuguese company Oni Way, in which Telenor has a 20 per cent stake, has been awarded a licence by the Portuguese government for third generation mobile operations in Portugal. The licence was awarded following a "beauty contest" for which the price for each licence was set at €100 million (£78.7 million). The majority owner of Oni Way is the Portuguese telecom Oni SGPS which is owned by Electricade de Portugal, Banco Comercial Portugues and oil and gas company Galp. Telenor also holds a 49.5 per cent stake in Esat Digifone.
