The number of people employed in telesales would rise by 4,000 to 10,000 within the next 18 months, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Harney, predicted yesterday after opening the Hertz Call Centre for car rental business in Swords, Co Dublin.
Ms Harney said the telesales sector was one of the fastest growing areas in the economy and Hertz had added to it with a $20 million (£15 million) investment in an 84,000 square-foot building which will receive over five million calls annually in over 10 different languages. "In this magnificent new facility Hertz already employs 450 people and is set to grow significantly in the years ahead," she said.
The Hertz European Service Centre handles inland enquiries from Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Scandinavia and Britain, and incorporates an online reservations system.
