It's tough being a top neurosurgeon, where a mistake of one millimetre can turn your patient into a vegetable, but you're coping well with the pressure. You cruise home after work (3 p.m.) in your new Lamborghini (thank God for those VHI price hikes), you slot the gearstick into reverse, back up into the driveway. Crunch!

Yes, you, the brain-surgeon have just pranged the car of your wife, the journalist. She can't resist the story. It makes the "light" slot at the bottom of page one. Now Gerry Ryan is telling brain-surgeon gags on the radio. If only you had ordered your secretary to buy you the ParkZone. This small ultrasonic sensor fits to the back of your car, detects how far you are from obstacles, and displays a green, amber or red light to guide you in. It has a range of five metres to 15 centimetres.

The Park-Zone, around £50 (€64), is available from The Gadget Shop in Dublin's Jervis Centre, or at gadgetshop.com on the Internet.
