Europe’s debt crisis will once more be in focus this week, with the markets taking note of European Central Bank President Jean Claude Trichet’s speech on Friday. Similarly, the crisis is likely to feature strongly at Friday’s IMF/World Bank annual summit.

In the US, the FOMC two-day policy meeting starting on Tuesday will be watched closely by the markets. Its announcement on Wednesday is not expected to include a move towards a third phase of quantitative easing, but it may include some form of stimulus measures.

At home, close attention will be paid to the second quarter GDP data which will be released on Thursday.
