EUROPE’S SOVEREIGN debt crisis will remain centre stage again this week, with Greek prime minister George Papandreou due to meet German chancellor Angela Merkel tomorrow.

In terms of economic data, US GDP figures for Q2 will be closely scrutinised for indications as to whether or not the world’s largest economy is on course for a fresh recession. On the domestic front, Wednesday’s retail sales figures are expected to show a fall in headline expenditure for August, due to weaker car sales.
