THIS WEEK

THE ONGOING turmoil in global financial markets is certain to dominate again this week.

THE ONGOING turmoil in global financial markets is certain to dominate again this week.

On the domestic front, the parlous state of the economy will continue to be a major talking point, with the Economic and Social Research Institute releasing its quarterly economic commentary tomorrow as it holds its annual budget perspective conference. The spotlight will return once again to the construction sector when building employment figures for August are released on Friday.

Meanwhile, retail sales figures for August, also due out on Friday, are expected to be weak. The latest inflation figures may provide a faint glimmer of hope, however, as they are likely to show further deceleration.

At the end of the week, the continuing uncertainty and its impact on Irish budgetary policy will be the focus of this year's Dublin economic workshop in Kenmare.
