UP to 450 British footwear jobs hung in the balance yesterday after a shoemaking company went into receivership.

Murdoch McKillop and Simon Allport, partners at Arthur Andersen, the City accountancy firm, were yesterday appointed joint administrative receivers at Chamberlain Phipps. They were appointed by the company's principal bankers, Bank of Scotland and Credit Lyonnais.
