FORMER INTEL chief executive Dr Craig Barrett, Etihad Airways chief executive James Hogan and Gerald Lawless, executive chairman of the Jumeirah luxury hotel group, are some of the confirmed attendees for the Global Irish Economic Forum, which will take place in Dublin next month.
Organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the three-day event hopes to generate ideas to stimulate the country’s economic recovery.
It is understood that more than 180 international figures with Irish links or with a strong connection to Ireland have agreed to attend.
Other business people attending the event, which will take place in Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park from September 18th to 20th, include Irial Finan, a senior Irish executive with Coca-Cola; Liam Fitzgerald, chief executive of pharmaceutical firm United Drug; and Dr Werner Kruckow, head of Siemens’ Irish operations.
Loreto Brennan Glucksman, chairwoman of the American Ireland Fund and William J Flynn, chairman of the non-profit National Committee on American Foreign Policy have also accepted invites.
Announcing the forum last April, Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin said the primary purpose was to explore how the Irish at home and abroad could work together to stimulate economic recovery.
“The forum will bring together for the first time the most influential members of the Irish community worldwide with a record of high achievement in business and culture, as well as a number of individuals with a strong business connection to Ireland,” said Mr Martin.
Dr Barrett has visited Ireland a number of times since Intel established an operation here almost 20 years ago. Mr Hogan is an Australian, while Mr Lawless is Irish.
