Audi Ireland has reported record sales for the first quarter of this year.

The car brand said a total of 2,612 cars were sold in January, February and March, up 17 per cent on the same period last year.

The company claimed it was now comfortably outselling its premium rivals BMW and Mercedes in the Irish market.

It said sales of its A3, A4 and A6 models performed strongly, with sales of the A6 increasing 35 per cent on the same period in 2014.

Audi Ireland managing director Christian Gussen said the positive results "reflected the company's commitment to providing the best in high quality products and customer service."

“Audi’s success is built on a combination of factors: dealer investment into their Audi showrooms, our class-leading customer service, and a product offering which is proving the most attractive to discerning customers of premium cars,” he said.
