The Margin notes ruefully that, across the water, Mr Brown's new budget will mean that UK bicycle enthusiasts can receive a 20p per mile tax credit for opting for two wheels rather than four, while cyclists here get nary a break from Mr McCreevy. This is for business use - e.g. getting from, say, the Department of Justice to . . . well, OK, Kerry's a bit far.

But since many people would also use the rothar for their commute, think of the benefits to the environment and all the poor, congested roads. At the very least it would be a nice gesture to those green souls who brave Dublin taxi drivers, buses and dug-up roads.
