A United Nations study yesterday backed Japan's $30 billion (£19.8 billion) financial aid programme to help five crisis-hit Asian nations, saying it would go further to restore global growth than a domestic fiscal stimulus of the same size.

The UN Conference on Trade and Development said that the US and EU countries would also benefit from higher growth as a result of the aid package.
