Workers at the Lovell & Christmas pig processing plant in Ballymoney, which was destroyed by fire last week, are still waiting to find out if the company is going to rebuild the factory, or move their operations elsewhere.

The owners are Malton Foods, a division of Unigate, and they told employees at the end of last week that it was still considering the future of the plant, and would inform them of their plans sometime this week.

A spokesman for Unigate said that the position of the factory's 400 workers was a major consideration, as was the plight of around 200 pig farmers.
