Three hundred jobs face the axe by mid-summer at troubled Wexford Electronix company, which has been in receivership since December.
Receiver Mr Ray Jackson told workers there would be no work for them by mid-summer after an Indian company that had been interested in acquiring the factory as a going concern had pulled out of any possible deal, while its two major contracts with JCB and Mitsubishi had been lost.
Wexford town councillor Mr Davy Hynes, who is also an employee of the company, said they had been told that 150 jobs were going between March 29th and April 15th, with the remaining 150 at best having work for the next three months.
Meanwhile, efforts are under way in Gorey to avoid the lay-off of 113 employees at the IP Plant in the town.
The 113 employees were placed on protective notice on Tuesday after management at the plant were served with strike notice by the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU), which represents four workers in the plant.
The TEEU strike action is due to begin this morning.
