A US computer software company has announced plans to create 40 high tech jobs in Belfast. Texas based STB Systems will establish a development centre to produce advanced software to enhance the performance of personal computers for leading manufacturers.
The company will employ about 40 graduates over the next three years. It said it had been attracted to Northern Ireland by the pool of skilled graduates. The announcement follows a £3.5 million sterling investment by the Boston based Liberty Mutual last month which will create 120 computer based jobs for graduates in Belfast.
Announcing the investment, Mr John McGuckian, chairman of the jobs creation agency, the Industrial Development Board, said it was extremely significant" for Northern Ireland because it introduced a new area of expertise in the development of products to the region.
STB is the world's second largest independent supplier of multi media products. Mr McGuckian said: "STB has set its sights on becoming the global market leader and is establishing an operation in Belfast to assist in the design and development of its range of sophisticated products in a rapidly growing international technology sector."
The project will involve capital costs of £622,900 and £2.4 million in operating costs.
