US computer networks manufacturer FORE Systems is to create 210 new jobs at Swords, Co Dublin, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, has announced.
In a £12.6 million investment, FORE is setting up a new European manufacturing facility at Swords. Initial recruitment of up to 60 people is expected to begin next month. The 210 jobs are to be created within five years, with 130 due to come on stream by the end of 1999.
Mr Bruton said yesterday that most of the jobs will be for operatives with Leaving Certificate standard of education, with a third of the workforce expected to be graduates.
FORE is moving into a new customised 40,000 square feet facility at the Swords Business Park, with production due to start next summer. Its operations at the Swords plant will include final assembly and the configuration and testing of its computer networking devices.
Based at Warrendal, Pennsylvania, FORE Systems, was founded in 1990 by four faculty members of the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. It was one of the first to pioneer the commercialisation of networking technology for automatic teller machines and had developed partnerships with international groups.
