A multimilliion investment by a United States telecommunications firm should create 162 new high technology jobs for Belfast, according to the North's economy minister Nigel Dodds.
The DUP minister yesterday announced that US telecoms firm Mformation Technologies is to establish a centre of technical excellence on the Ormeau Road in Belfast with financial support from Invest Northern Ireland of £2.115 million.
Mformation is a global leader in the provision of mobile device management software to many of the world's leading wireless network operators, including Vodafone, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Sprint Nextel and Telus.
Mr Dodds said that Mformation's decision to locate in Northern Ireland was testament to the North's strong knowledge base, information technology infrastructure and talented people. "This region has a growing cluster of hi-tech companies servicing the international mobile telecoms industry. A firm of Mformation's calibre and global market reach will add significant value to this sector by delivering an estimated £5 million per annum in wages and salaries into the local economy," added Mr Dodds.
Mformation's technology is helping to increase demand for mobile data devices and services by improving the customer experience, streamlining the delivery of new data services applications as well as lowering costs, according to the minister's department.
The chief executive of Mformation Mark Edwards said Northern Ireland offered an outstanding location option "for our growing company, particularly because of the region's high quality skills."
