The US Justice Department yesterday filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block Northwest Airlines from taking over Continental Airlines. The department said that a proposal under which Northwest would buy a controlling interest in Continental would "substantially" diminish their incentives to compete against each other and lead to higher ticket prices. Northwest and Continental are the fourth and fifth largest US carriers.
