Attention turns back to the Federal Reserve this week to see if it follows the ECB cut with a move of its own. The betting is that it will, with the question remaining of whether it will opt for a quarter or a half point drop.

ECB president Mr Wim Duisenberg will hope that any cut will put a floor under the euro which fell sharply at the end of last week.
