THE Bank of England was tight-lipped yesterday over a report its governor, Mr Eddie George, had blocked a senior executive from taking a seat in the boardroom at English Premier League football club, Aston Villa. Mr Mervyn King, the bank's chief economist and a lifelong fan of the club, was barred from taking on the role of non-executive director at the club which is planning a stock market flotation.
