Wilson & Horton, the New Zealand newspaper group which is 85.6 per cent owned by Independent Newspapers, has sold Shortland Publications, its educational publishing division, to Tribune Education. The consideration has not been disclosed. Tribune Education is part of Tribune Company, a US media company which owns the Chicago Tribune. Wilson & Horton said Shortland had been a successful part of the group since it was purchased from NZ News in 1988 but "it did not form part of our core business of newspaper publishing and commercial printing". Shortland publishes reading, language, arts, science and social studies material for primary schools in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the US and Britain.
