German shares ended lower and were set for a consolidation period as weak prices dragged the IBIS Dax share index briefly below the pivotal 2,500 level, dealers said. "Trading volumes are very low and the market is getting quieter, but remaining volatile. Trading is very nervous and we reckon a correction is on the way," said a trader. Shares also succumbed to selling pressure from weaker German futures and bonds.
Paris CAC-40: 2007.95 (+4.12)
The Paris Bourse posted a modest gain in quiet trading as the CAC-40 index finished the day at 2007.95 points, up 0.21 per cent by comparison with the Monday close. Share volume was a moderate 3.8 billion francs. The Matif financial futures market, which had risen by over 1 per cent on Monday, eased by 0.18 per cent on Tuesday to stand at 121.42.
