Sky is the limit for Google's cloud plan

MARVEL:GOOGLE COULD not be accused of a lack of ambition – after all, this is the company whose stated mission "is to organise the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful".

Its latest wheeze is to build a physical cloud for the London 2012 Olympics.

Google has partnered with MIT, engineering firm Arup and a host of others with an ambitious plan for a “cloud” viewing platform which would also transmit live weather and other data pulled from the web.

Kindling debate  on e-book readers

READ:SOME MAY be saying 2009 is the year of the e-book, but influential editor and author John Battelle (who co-founded Wired magazine) doesn't agree.

In a well-argued blog post, he says he will never use his Amazon Kindle to read a book because of his attachment to the physical form of books, which allows you to share them easily but also sit in a room surrounded by shelves full of books you’ve already read.

Battelle uses his Kindle for magazines and newspapers, however, so let’s hope he has subscribed to The Irish Times.
