Access to accurate information on social entitlements and civil rights still frustrates many citizens despite technological advances. Fortunately, individuals with access to the Internet now have an invaluable aid at their fingertips - the Citizens Information Database (CID).

The CID website was developed by the National Social Service Board (NSSB) to replace its paper-based information system. It is easy to use and contains approximately 2,000 items of information that are updated several times a week where necessary.

Content is developed by the NSSB or derived from official source material. Key topics include social and legal entitlements, health services, taxation, consumer rights, housing, the environment, employment law and information on the European Union.

Data is classified and indexed to ensure easy access for consumers. The major benefit of the system is its ability to search large volumes of information quickly. The site provides users with numerous retrievals options including an alphabetical index or search by subject option.

The What's New section keeps consumers up to date with the latest developments while the Noticeboard provides detail on relevant upcoming events. Now consumers with specific questions about social welfare entitlements, benefits for the elderly, retraining options or employee benefits may obtain full details in moments rather than hanging on the phone or waiting for the post.

Local Citizens Information Centres (CIC) are linked to the system and individuals without direct Internet access should contact them to obtain information on their social entitlements and civil rights.
