Digital Equipment said sales of Windows NT on its servers has helped push up its net income from $31.9 million (£22.6 million) to $74.8 million for the second quarter to December 27th, 1997. Earnings per share rose to 44 cents, one cent better than market expectations and up from 15 cents on the second quarter of Digital's fiscal year 1996.

Digital employs more than 1,100 people in the software centre in Galway, its sales and service subsidiary and PC support centre in Dublin.
