Workers' role as business managers

The rate of participation among Irish workers in their companies is above the EU average, according to a new survey. The survey, published by the European Foundation, says that workers in 82 per cent of Irish companies are either encouraged to make their views known or management give them increased responsibility to do their jobs without reference upward.

The remaining 18 per cent of firms do not have any observable form of worker participation, according to the survey. The European Foundation is a Europe-wide research body and their survey was compiled from the responses of 382 general managers in the Republic.

The survey shows that while the Republic has high rates of participation, the overall EU rate is behind that of the United States and the Far East.
