A computer company which claims the copyright to its solution to the "millennium bug" has been infringed by a former agent yesterday secured High Court orders against that agent, Precision Software Ltd.

Mr Justice Geoghegan granted Millennium Solutions Limited, of Merrion Square, Dublin, a number of interim orders against Precision, of Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin.

Under the terms of the orders, Precision is restrained from selling or offering for sale or advertising or display any computer programme under the designation MS/98 or otherwise which uses or incorporates any computer programme or part thereof the property of Millennium save for sales of a computer MS4 programme sold or distributed pursuant to a licensing agreement dated December 28th 1996.

In an affidavit, Mr Manus Bray, managing director of Millennium, said he and Mr William Chisholm had conceived an idea to provide a solution to the "millennium bug". He said Millennium had appointed Precision as its non-exclusive agent to market, sell and support the MS4 software on a global basis by an agreement of December 20th 1996.
