Dublin Zoo has entered the online world with a new website that can be visited at http://www.dublinzoo.ie. The site has been created as part of Dublin Zoo's educational programme, and is aimed primarily at schoolchildren. Interspersed with pictures of the main attraction the animals the site was designed and developed by Mr Martin Scott of Hometown Multimedia. Mr Scott also developed Dublin Zoo's CD-Rom which was introduced during 1997.

Information includes educational material on the animals; the zoo's development plan currently under way; photographs of many of the animals; details of admission times and prices; feeding times; directions and how to become a member. Recently there have been a number of births at the zoo and these have all been recorded on the site.

Mr Peter Wilson, zoo director, is confident that the site will play a significant role in the zoo's extensive education programme. "In recent years our education department has put together superb educational programmes, which last year reached more than 50,000 students both at primary and secondary level. Dublin Zoo are encouraging everyone who participates in their educational programmes to continue their relationship with the Zoo through the Web site."
