The unique Pramerica experience

With plans to grow by 300 employees, Pramerica’s focus on training, learning and career development ensures it remains a ‘Great Place to Work’

Pramerica, the largest employer in the north west of Ireland, is a multifunction global business solutions centre and subsidiary of U.S.-based Prudential Financial, Inc. Established in 2000 as a software development operation with 88 employees, the company now employs more than 1350 staff in a broad range of positions including: software developers, actuaries, project managers, DevOps, data scientists and call centre operators.

“At Pramerica, the pride we take in our work and how we collaborate has helped us grow, develop our talent, innovate and provide the best service to our parent company,” says Ciaran Harvey, senior managing director and chief information officer at Pramerica. According to Harvey, the caliber of the people who work at Pramerica is no accident. “Talent is our key competitive advantage, and we work hard to identify, nurture and reward that talent.”

Odhran Patton joined Pramerica in December 2007 as an operations representative in the Annuities department and is now working as a project management specialist. "From day one I was encouraged to own my career and do what I could to progress within the company. When I expressed an interest in project management, I was selected for one of the many training programs that Pramerica offers.”  Odhran is now a project management specialist, and he has passed the Prince2 and Agile certification exams within the last year.

“We understand the importance of the work environment that we provide for our talent,” explains Mary Howick, vice president of Human Resources. “We’ve worked hard to ensure that a position in Pramerica isn’t seen as ‘just a job’ but rather an opportunity to pursue a career and develop a skill set.”

Pramerica offers flex¬ible working arrangements such as teleworking, variable starting times, desk sharing and part-time working arrangements. According to Howick, more than 30 percent of Pramerica’s workforce employees use these alternate arrangements.

Pramerica’s location in Letterkenny offers all the amenities of a busy working town but with a landscape that is spectacular and varied with rugged mountains and miles of coastline and beaches. While on the Pramerica campus, staff members enjoy facilities such as a barista coffee bar, a subsidised restaurant and informal meeting areas. In 2016, employees will begin moving to a new campus that will provide a host of new facilities.
