Defence Forces bomb disposal experts assisted gardaí on request after searches

Gardaí have recovered ammunition as part of planned searches conducted in parts of Limerick city and county.

The ammunition, quantity not disclosed, was recovered during searches yesterday, Saturday December 14th.

Gardaí requested the assistance of members of the Defence Forces to help in the search, which also yielded a quantity of fireworks.

Gardaí did not have information when asked for details.

When the Defence Forces were contacted, a spokesman replied that “bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána (AGS) in relation to items found in the Limerick area”.

“Following an assessment by the EOD team a quantity of fireworks and non-defence forces ammunition was disposed of, and the scene was handed over to AGS,” the Defence Forces spokesman said.
