A man has been released without charge after bringing a shotgun on to a Dublin-bound train.
The man, aged in his 50s, was detained after the train he was travelling on arrived in Connolly station on Wednesday evening.
All services in and out of the station were halted while members of the Garda’s armed support unit responded to the incident. This caused delays of more than 50 minutes for commuters through Connolly station.
Irish Rail was informed of the man while the service travelled between Maynooth, Co Kildare and the city centre. The man boarded the train in Maynooth, The Irish Times understands.

The man was arrested at the station and the firearm was seized while the station itself reopened shortly before 7.30pm.
In a statement on Wednesday, gardaí said: “The individual is not alleged to have made any threat towards any passenger on-board.”
Gardaí told The Irish Times the seized firearm is still subject to technical examinations to determine its status.
A file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.
