A 30-year-old man has been arrested following the seizure of €70,000 worth of drugs in a joint operation by gardaí with customs officers in east Cork on Tuesday.
The man was arrested in Carrigtwohill on Tuesday afternoon after gardaí and customs officers searched a house and found 3.5kg of cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €70,00.
The drugs have been sent to the Forensic Science Ireland for analysis to confirm that they are cannabis herb and gardaí also hope the analysis will enable them to put a precise value on the drugs.
The intelligence-led operation involved Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Cork Divisional Drugs Unit, and detector dog Merlin.

The man, an Irish national, was arrested and brought to Midleton Garda station for questioning about the drugs which gardaí believe were destined for the local east Cork market.
The man is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 which allows gardaí detain suspects for up to seven days before they must be charged or released.
