A 32-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged in connection with a break-in at a house in Co Cork in the early hours in which a woman was sexually assaulted and her daughter physically assaulted.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with a total of six offences in relation to the incident which happened at a house in the Ballineen area of West Cork at about 4.30am on Sunday, January 12th.
The man was brought before a special sitting on Clonakilty District Court on Tuesday afternoon where he was charged with one count of assault causing harm to the 38-year-old woman and one count of assault causing harm to her 13-year-old daughter.
The man was also charged with two counts of false imprisonment of both the woman and her daughter at the house on the same occasion, while he was also charged with sexual assault of the woman and burglary with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The man was also accused of a seventh offence in relation to a separate incident. He is charged with driving off without paying for fuel at Sheehan’s Garage, Muckross Road, Killarney, Co Kerry, also on January 12th.
Det Garda Paul Cullen of the West Cork Protective Services Unit gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution, and told the court that when he arrested the accused at 1.35pm and charged him at 2.58pm, he made no reply.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy said gardaí were seeking a remand to Bandon District Court.
Judge John King granted the application and remanded the accused in custody to appear again at Bandon on January 20th for directions from the DPP. He also granted the accused free legal aid.
There was no application for bail.
