Nostalgia for the early 1980s is instantly evoked by the news that Michael's Scott's company, The Machine, has taken a three-and-a-half year lease on the SFX on Upper Sherrard Street, Dublin. This is good news for the company, of course, which previously had a bolt-hole downstairs at the RHA Gallagher Gallery. But it also makes a middle-scale, 500-seat theatre available to other independent companies and revives a venue which, through Paul Mercier's Passion Machine, was a crucible for so much of the past 15 years' theatrical energy.
