A month after Christian was attacked, Limerick student Dennis Franklin was attacked in the same area of Cork. He remains in a persistent vegetative state.

Also in 2002, a man was punched and kicked as he walked along Pearse Street in Dublin speaking on his mobile phone.

In August 2002 a Frenchman was attacked in Temple Bar in Dublin.

In April 2003 Sligo librarian Barry Duggan was attacked at 2am on Grafton Street, Dublin. The attack left him in a critical condition and with ongoing implications to this day.

In September 2004 a Lithuanian man, Vyatautas Sukys (40), was left in a vegetative state following what gardaí described as an "unprovoked and savage" attack near Dublin's Royal Canal.

In December 2004 an 18-year-old man was hospitalised and had to have metal plates inserted in his jaw following a random attack at a nightclub in Carlow.

In June 2005 Anthony Connellan (22) spent a week in intensive care after he was stabbed three times in an unprovoked attack in Ennis.

In August 2005 Vincent O'Brien (40) was left brain-damaged after an attack near his home in Bluebell, Dublin.

In April this year, at 4am on a Monday, a man in his 30s was knocked to the ground outside the Central Bank in Dublin and repeatedly kicked in the head and left in a critical condition.
