One of the major obstacles to participation in the arts by disabled people is their lack of access to information about what's going on, and how they can get involved. The Arts and Disability Handbook, published jointly this week by the arts councils of Northern Ireland and the Republic, aims to fill the gap. Based on research in Belfast and Dublin, the handbook provides comprehensive information about the arts for people with disabilities, and also informs the arts sector about disability issues. It's available in Braille, large print and on computer disk. Further information from Mary Hyland, communications officer, the Arts Council, 01-618 0258.
