AND now that PR guru Pat Heneghah once employed as a consultant to the NCH is actually on the board, he might like to discourage the institution from making exaggerated claims about its own promotions. The forthcoming appearances by violinist Tasmin Little and cellist Lynn Harrell are not, as claimed by the NCH, debut Irish recitals.
Little was first heard in recital in Ireland in 1991 (under the aegis of NCH director Judith Woodworth's Great Irish Houses Festival, no less), and Harrell was heard at the RDS in 1984. And, for the record, prices for a Tasmin Little recital in Belfast last year were £8 (concessions at £6 and £4) prices at the NCH are to mu from £7 to £16, with concessions (in the £7 choir balcony seats only!) at £6. There's certainly a lot, in the pricing policy area alone, for the new board to make its mark on.
