Emma Donaldson’s work “teases out the relationship between the physical body as a vessel and what she refers to as the “mental armatures (formed by experience) that shape our perception of self”. It’s a process that leads Donaldson into some strange territory, philosophically and artistically as she creates images, objects and environments that equate in some way with our experiences, conceptions and perceptions of the world as we live in it. Concentric circular patterns and chains of forms recalling sequences of nerve synapses invite us to look at ourselves looking and thinking.
Donaldson studied at Wimbledon School of Art and this show came about through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Artists Career Enhancement Programme.
