There is always fine work to be found at the Water Colour Society of Ireland’s annual show and, apart from anything else, admission is free, so you get to see a lot of art for zero outlay. Chances are that you won’t like everything, but there are more than 300 pieces on which you can form an opinion.
Many fine names feature among the regular exhibitors, with nine new members showing this year. Among the tried-and-tested artists are Nancy Larchet, Oisin Roche, John Keating, Jean Bodhan (her Victoria Plums, pictured), Yanny Petters, Tom Ryan, Susan Sex, Joe Dunne, James Hanley, Neil Shawcross, Grania Langrishe and the society's new president, Pauline Doyle.
Watercolour is an infinitely flexible medium, but there remains the ideal of the classical well-made watercolour, and its exponents can be found in the ranks of the society.
