William IV dining chairs fetch £3,100

At last Tuesday's fine art auction conducted by Thomas Adams & Co of Blackrock, Co Dublin, a set of eight William IV mahogany bar-back dining chairs was sold for £3,100, while a George IV mahogany sofa table made £1,600.

A Victorian mahogany dining table fetched £1,550 and two other dining tables from the same period both went for £1,000 each. £1,100 was paid for a Victorian giltwood, arch-top overmantle, £900 for a George IV inlaid mahogany grandfather clock and £680 for an Edwardian brass, Corinthian column oil lamp.

Woodward's most recent auction in Cork saw a full attendance and many active bidders competing for items such as a Georgian giltwood, girandole mirror, which sold for £5,000, and a pair of Regency inlaid rosewood card tables (£4,750).

A George III bureau bookcase went for £2,800, a Regency circular, gilt convex mirror made £1,700, both a Regency sideboard and a Georgian breakfast table sold for £1,100 each and both a Victorian pedestal desk and a hexagonal library table went for £1,000 each.
