Regency breakfast table sold for £2,000 at Kells
Business was brisk at Oliver Usher's first antiques and furniture auction of the year last Tuesday at his auction rooms in Kells, Co Meath. A Regency breakfast table, which made £2,000, a Victorian bookcase (£1,200) and a chiffonier (£850) were among the highest prices. There was also a good trade in pine, with a pine kitchen table going under the hammer for £300 and a pine press selling for £200. A Victorian dumbwaiter was sold for £500, while a pair of brass and metal bed ends fetched £190.
Top price of £4,500 for giltwood overmantel
A large Victorian giltwood, arched-framed overmantel fetched the highest price (£4,500) at what was a well-attended auction in Thomas Adams's showrooms in Blackrock, Co Dublin, last Tuesday. Another Victorian giltwood wall mirror also made a solid price of £1,900.
There was obviously great interest in the pair of George II cast candlesticks, which finally went under the hammer for £3,100. A four-piece Irish silver tea service, with celtic banding, made £790.
Other items which drew great interest from bidders included a George IV mahogany bookcase (£2,600), a Georgian mahogany wine cooler (£1,000) and a Rosewood, marquetry, enveloped bridge table (£900).
Breakfront, four-door bookcase makes £4,750
Town & Country's auction last Sunday drew a good crowd, and several items fetched good prices. A 19th-century breakfront, four-door bookcase sold for £4,750, the highest price of the day, while a George IV mahogany side cabinet went under the hammer for £1,420.
A Victorian rosewood card table also made a good price, at £1,400, as did a Victorian mahogany bookcase (£1,080).
